IN SEASON ONE, 72 COLLECTORS FROM 24 STATES PRE-PURCHASED 80 Limited Edition Prints from a body of work I had yet to create. WHAT I PRODUCED AND DELIVERED was a highly acclaimed, multi- award winning series titled: “The Wait We Carry”, winning awards such as Best in Show at the Des Moines Art Festival, Best in Photography at the Coconut Grove Art Festival, Best in Show Congo Square at the New Orleans Jazz Festival and even had a piece from the series selected to be the featured art work for the Old Town Art Festival where I was the first African American Featured Artist in the shows 50+ year history and only the 3rd photographer ever to hold the same honor.

THE SERIES CONSISTS OF 8 PIECES and speaks both literally and figuratively to the experience of Black Americans being told to “Wait”. For generations upon generations Black people in America have been waiting for equal rights, fairness and justice. This “waiting” has impacted our youth and the “waiting” has turned into a physical and mental weight we carry with us today. This visual essay is a recognition of the reality many Black Americans experience daily and references the “weight” that’s passed on to our children.

As an artist and entrepreneur, “The SANDBOX” is where I get to EXPLORE & EXPERIMENT with new ideas, fresh concepts, and essentially delve into themes that inspire me. It’s where I can truly be real with myself and immerse myself into the creative process with no judgement, no timelines, no expectations, and no pressure. It’s where I can organically discover my truth. It inspires artistic evolution through discovery and vulnerability; so much so that this next series may be unrecognizable compared to the Clifton Henri work that you have come to know and appreciate - It will however, absolutely be created with the same passion, sensitivity and thoughtfulness.

I’VE FOUND MYSELF IN QUITE THE JUXTAPOSITION. Life has been exciting and full of firsts over the last 4 years. I’m 45 years old... married to a beautiful and driven woman... father to a gorgeous and spunky 3 year old and while I am extremely blessed, everyday I find myself literally fighting for my life; trying to protect and preserve the man and artist that I’ve been for all these years. But, what I’ve discovered though this inner struggle is that all I’m actually doing is suffocating the man and artist I’m destined to be.

I’M STEPPING INTO MY GREATNESS. I’m at a point in my life, and my career, where I’m ready to take bigger swings and exhibit on larger stages. I’ve got my heart on publishing my first book and curating my first museum exhibition. I’ve had an amazing career thus far, hitting the century mark and winning over 100 Awards, but it’s time to level up and welcome the growing pains that evolving into a more authentic artist are sure to bring. Joining me on this project is a part of my artist journey I don’t think you want to miss.

I’M EXCITED TO GET STARTED. The times where I’ve felt like I was artistically at my best were in College and Graduate School, where I was immersed in a learning environment, and much of the work was informed and inspired through research. Even though I’ve created great work since then, I’m excited to dive back into a space of creating work rooted in discovery, research and learning.

After more than a decade on the road, showing my work and collecting awards at art festivals around the country year after year, you might be surprised to find out that allowing this level of access and vulnerablility scares the hell out of me, even with Sandbox Season 1 under my belt.

This once “natural” space of creation definitely feels distant and unfamiliar, which is WHY I’m so excited about the work, and the thoughtfulness that will come out of the next series. It’s a necessary step towards pure authenticity and I’m honored to extend this invitation to you. You’ve been riding with me thus far… Let’s keep going!
