When in Grad School, I drove from Savannah, GA to Alabama to help my Grandfather clear some old family land and to take this photo. Inspired by the 1968 Tennessee Sanitation Workers Strike / I Am A Man Movement and the 1968 Olympics. I revamped the iconic signage to include a silhouette of Tommie Smith to combine the 2 events and capture the essence of the entire Movement. My Grandfather was proud to carry it as a declaration, as many did back in the day. We began talking about those days and his feelings about where we are headed. Its crazy to see how much progress we’ve had and how much more that still needs to take place. The movement inspires me, my grandfather inspires me and I thought the revamp would do the same for others.
